Burton Park provides specialist neurobehavioural rehabilitation for people with an acquired brain injury, including traumatic brain injury and stroke or a progressive neurological condition to reduce challenging behaviour and optimise functional skills. 

Burton Park is a 50 bedded inpatient rehabilitation service, across three units and patients are supported to maximise their level of independence.  A variety of care pathways can be offered, including intensive or slower stream neurobehavioural rehabilitation which can optimize patients living in the least restrictive setting. 

As part of the intensive neurorehabilitation provided on-site at Burton Park, there is a large emphasis placed upon community rehabilitation in order to prepare the patient to move back to their local area as independently as is possible. Burton Park is situated in the historic town of Melton Mowbray, a thriving market town. Here patients can access local amenities such as a leisure centre, cinema, shops, restaurants and cafés to support their full rehabilitation programme.  The TDT includes full time Neuropsychologists, Psychiatrists. Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapist, Speech and Language Therapists, Social Work along with Qualified Nurses and Rehabilitation Assistants. Outcome measures are routinely collected and individual`s progress tracked.

Burton Park boasts a range of facilities utilised by the TDT and patients as they work through their specialist individual rehabilitation plan.

The role:

As the social worker you will work in conjunction with the Burton Park TDT to offer rehabilitation and support to service users with Neurological conditions. The role is to  support service users in maintaining their social networks, family contacts, active links with external professionals and to ensure their legal rights continue to be upheld in line.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate social work clinics, 1:1.
  • Attend and contribute to TDT meetings/clinical reviews.
  • Compile reports and attend MH Act/Tribunals/CPA reviews
  • Completing of Benefits forms.
  • Liaising with families/external professionals as required.
  • Co-ordinate and report on safeguarding matters, and support safeguarding training
  • Lead on all issues relating to the Mental Capacity Act.
  • To support user involvement projects and opportunities as they arise so as to promote patients participation in decision making

Role requirements/Qualifications

  • Full Social Work Qualification.
  • Good communication skills, interpersonal skills and IT skills. 
  • Aptitude to manage and utilise information technology, and the skills to liaise with external professionals and families.
  • Effective decision maker able to problem solve within a given time framework
  • Diplomatic approach and skilled in resolving conflict.
  • Able to interpret data.
  • Judgement - able to make sensible decisions based on the information available.
  • Alert and responsive to change.
  • Experience of report writing.
  • Knowledge of transdisciplinary working.
  • Experience working within a Hospital environment.  
  • Experience of working with Challenging service users.
