Expansion, through positive growth, means that the company is now looking for a Vehicle Builder to be based at their depot in Buckinghamshire.

This is a new position within the Company which comes with real diversity, you will also have the variety of travelling nationally working out of the Company`s other depots. You must be committed, able to multi-task and have the ability to problem solve within tight deadlines. The applicant will be reporting to the Production Manager.

Key Features of the Role:

This is where the skilled craftsman can really shine. The position demands a standard of competence necessitating either from an apprenticeship to a trade or from a recognised training programme where the employee is required to be fully qualified in all parts of that trade and capable of producing the work to the required standard, specification or finish expected of a craftsman.

It is important that you are competent to use sharp tools, chisels, saws, planes and with this is also able to use mechanical machines; hand saw and a bench saw. Competency with hand tools; electric pump screwdriver, spanners and torque wrenches, portable circular saws, jigsaw is very important.

You will be stripping and rebuilding vehicle interiors, luggage racks, seat frames and buffet cars plus removing the interior panels on vehicles and re-insulate.

You will be stripping, removing and rebuilding floor panelling and plywood flooring usually to a specified shape with assembly work.

To add to the variety, you may be required to travel nationally and work out of other depots.

Knowledge and Skills:

You should be an accomplished Vehicle Builder and must have the equivalent to C or above in GCSE Maths and English.

Indentured apprenticeship in Vehicle Building with supporting industry recognised ITB certificate along with City and Guilds 3850 certificate showing evidence of academic theory of trade.

The equivalent qualification - NVQ level 3 in trade along with CVA certificate to support.

Previous experience in Railway Rolling stock is an advantage but not essential.

Knowledge and the ability to work in GRP and woods is important as these materials are used.

You must be able to strip and rebuild vehicle interiors, luggage racks, seat frames and buffet cars plus remove the interior panels on vehicles and re-insulate.

You should be able in stripping, removing and rebuilding floor panelling and plywood flooring usually to a specified shape with assembly work and must have the confidence to self-certify the work.

Yiou must have a strong understanding of 5s and will be required to have an awareness of the importance of Quality.

What`s on Offer:

Salary ranges available:

£ 21,300.00 - Grade 2 Level 1. NVQ level 3 in own trade or relevant trade, apprenticeship documents and relevant units at NVQ level 2 to cover non-core activities of dissimilar trades.

£ 22,651.23 - Grade 2 level 2. Practical Assessment - Customer specifications and work instructions. Must be Safety critical assessed. Must also have internal assessment on non-core activity. Also must be prepared to undertake courses as appropriate. Theory Assessment - B.I.T training (6 units comprising - Statutory requirements, Safety requirements, Effective Team Working, Organization Techniques, Continuous Improvement, Visual systems and Flow Process analysis). Additional depot Certification processes.

£ 24,000.23 - Grade 2 Level 3. Relevant trade apprenticeship documents or full NVQ Level 3 at core trade and units at NVQ Level 3at other trades craft inter -changeability (Dual Skilled e.g. Electrical/Mechanical).
