Description :

A rapidly expanding logistics, import and customs clearance business requires an Import Team Manager. This exciting role involves the leadership of an import handling team who manage the supply chain from origin dispatch through to clearance, completion and handover to final mile delivery vendors. The Import Team Manager is responsible for all aspects of this logistics operation including management of an approved External Temporary Storage Facility (ETSF). This management role offers you the opportunity to develop into a customs expert and to become part of the senior team as the business continues its growth trajectory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operating an import service from pre-alert through to arrival airport, clearance and delivery within pre-defined schedules
  • Management and recruitment of a team of import clerks to perform the import service within these schedules meeting quality and compliance parameters
  • Management and recruitment of a team of cargo handlers /warehouse operatives meeting quality and compliance parameters
  • Managing the facilities and other resources dedicated to the import operation and maintenance of these facilities within compliance standards
  • Accountable for cost efficiency in airline transportation, overhead productivity and compliance with import regulation throughout the logistics and clearance process
  • Responsible for setting targets and measuring performance for all staff
  • Responsible for the cost and performance targets for the import team
  • To liaise with customers or their agents and representatives to advise on best practice documentation, systems compliance and freight operations
  • To ensure operational effectiveness and speed from origin to delivery vendor handover
  • Responsible for Health and Safety policy, standards and compliance for the team
  • Key contributor to the management team for development projects
  • Implement and maintain company systems including a propriety IT platform
  • Compliance with all company policies including Data Protection, Equal opportunities, Health and Safety and others

Knowledge, skills and qualifications - desirable:

  • Experience in logistics, air transportation or compliance would all suit this role
  • An effective people manager
  • Capable of working with senior management team including the Managing Director and Finance Director

Person Specification:

You will be someone who enjoys a challenge and who is a fast learner with a desire to become a customs expert in a short space of time. Capable of working independently you must be able to use your own initiative. You will be willing to lead on performance management for the team and be responsible for resourcing, rosters and any other HR-related issues arising.
